WHAT IS AMERICA’S BEST SPORTS CAR?

The obvious answer is the Corvette. For the last 20 years, especially, Corvette has had the best suspensions, wheels, tires, engines, and transmissions of any car in the world. GM spent millions of dollars and hours designing, developing, and manufacturing these parts.

IMAGINE HOW GREAT THAT CAR WOULD BE IF IT WERE 1200LBS LIGHTER, HAD A LOWER CENTER OF GRAVITY, AND HAD A TRUE MID ENGINE WEIGHT BALANCE!

The automotive press would proclaim it as the world’s greatest SUPERCAR!

TO TEST THAT THEORY WE BUILT IT!

During 2001 we built a light but incredibly stiff chassis to which the stock Vette suspension simply bolt into. We kept the Vette's wheel base and track. We moved the engine location rearward and slipped on a prototype fiberglass body to test its performance.
We know that there are 2 basic ways to increase performance. The traditional way is to increase power. The problem with this approach is that you then have to beef up the drive train, add bigger brakes, replace compliant suspension bushings with rock hard ones, increase spring rates, and put as big a tire on as possible. The problem with this approach is that you end up with an extremely expensive, usually finicky, and rough riding contraption that seems cool but is hard to live with day in and day out.
The other way is the way that the world famous founder of Lotus, Collin Chapman, did it. Reduce as much weight as possible. If you start out with components designed for a car that weighs 3200lbs and put them in a car that weights close to 2000lbs then you have all of the power that you need, all of the brakes that you need, and all of the tires that you need, to create a Super Car without sacrificing reliability, economy, or ride comfort.

WE TEST THE PERFORMANCE OF OUR CREATION!

We raced the Prototype Dragon at an event known as Run n Gun in October of 2001. The event consists of a 1.67 mile road course, drag race, and autocross. Held at Gateway International Raceway it attracks high performance cars from all across the country.
The participating cars are broken down into 3 general categories. They are: Street cars, defined as cars with mufflers, street legal, and having DOT tread rated tires of 200 or more. Prepared, which allows for engine mods, open headers and racing slicks. Then there are the Pro cars, which means that basically anything goes. We are talking about serious racing machines with skilled drivers, and sometimes over 1000hp.
The Dragon raced in the Steet
class. The Stock C4 suspension hadn't even been set up because this was the first time it was being driven. The engine was a 540hp 427 Small Block. The car handled so well that it won the road course by over 5 seconds per lap! The car won the AutoCross handily!
I have never driven a car that handled as well as this. I had several racers test it out and all said that it was one of the best handling cars that they had ever driven.

WE KNEW THAT WE HAD CREATED A TRUE SUPER CAR. NOW, WE HAD TO GIVE IT THE SUPER CAR BODY THAT IT DESERVED!

Since, 2001 we have been building cars with looks inspired by the gorgeous late 1950’s sports racers. Cars like the Scarab, Ferrari, Devin, Jaguar, Austin Martin, Mercedes, and Lister. We loved the Lister because of it’s swoopy, low styling.
The 1958 Lister was known as the “knobbly” because of high fender arches and a low cowl height. At the time the height of the windshield above the cowl was dictated by the racing sanctioning body. The Lister got around the rule by lowering the body and having the cowl height as low as possible. This resulted in a raised hood “tunnel” to enclose the engine and the exaggerated wheel arches. This also reduced the over all height of the car dramatically and helped make the Lister one of the most successful racing cars of its day.
Listers were raced in Europe with Jaguar engines but several were shipped without engine/transmissions to California for road racing. Chevy V8 Corvette engines and transmissions were installed. These cars became know as Lister Corvettes. But these originals were small cars: close to 90" wheelbase, and much narrower track than even C4 width.

The original Dragon prototype was designed so FULL WIDTH C4 components could be bolted right in, but there were some styling elements that we felt needed some revision, so over the winter of 2001-2002, the Prototype body was restyled to the "SeriesI" Production body, featuring larger footboxes, and reworked engine hump and radiator opening.

SERIES II IS BORN in 2005!
Resting on Dragon's laurels was not good enough. Our goal was to create an even better Dragon that had even more footbox room, a lower engine bump for the fuel-injected builds that are now preferred, and had a body that was easier to fit and finish, but still had the timeless beauty and historical basis of earlier Dragons. We started by redesigning the chassis to a space frame style structure that also allowed a choice of Live Axle Rear End. For the body, we began by smoothing the fender transitions and making the wheel openings tighter and more symmetric. The firewall and cowl were reworked to there was only one body seam. The windshield frame was redesigned to be cocmpletely removable. AND we did away with the doors, further improving frame stiffness, side-impact protection, and ease of construction. The aluminum panel construction of the tub and footboxes also allowed options for seat choices.

The result is, to us, one of the most stunning shapes to ever grace the road. Be prepared to meet a lot of people iwhen you drive this car!

BEAUTY AND PERFORMANCE BUT WHAT ABOUT COMFORT?

We have designed the car so that large guys can be comfortable. With the pedals in the full forward position, inseams up to 36" can be acoomodated easily. I can not touch them. The footboxes, are 17 inches wide and 15 inches tall at the pedals! Seats up to 22 inches wide easily fit in the tub. Even if you are a tall driver, your head is below the top of the windshield frame. All this and the car has the stock Vette’s 5 inches of ground clearance.
We set out to create the ultimate driving experience. Just you, your machine, and the road. We left off the creature comforts. (There is room for them if you want to add them.) Driving a Dragon is similar in experience to driving a ground pounding motorcyle, T-rex 3 wheeler, Lotus Super 7, or Ariel Atom. But, our car is more comfortable, and has a BIG, FUEL INJECTED, AMERICAN V8 for power!

.

UNIQUE FEATURES TO THE DRAGON ROADSTER

Most footboxes are cramped, offset, and hot. Ours are not. In the Dragon, you sit with your legs pretty much straight in front of you. Our headers are beautifully handcrafted, mandrel bent worksk of art. They sweep forward and around the foot boxes. This allows the footboxes to be unsually long. It also keeps them cool and comfortable.
Our frame is a perimeter steel space frame with an intregal structural backbone which serves as the transmission tunnel. You sit in the frame instead of on it. This lets you place seats as low as possible with out sacrificing ground clearance. The design equally feeds the suspension loads down the tunnel as well as through the perimiter. This creates an amazingly torsionally stiff chassis that allows the suspension to work to its fullest. Our top and bottom frame rails are spaced 16 inces apart so that you are surrounded by steel not just fiberglass.

With C5 parts more readily available and affordable, option for C5 suspension is now available.

The SeriesII Dragon can now be ordered to take late model C5 Corvette suspension. The Front suspension parts bolt directly to the SeriesII Chassis brackets. The rear suspension boltls to the stock C5 cradle and fit neatly to the rear frame. C5 Vette uses a transaxle with the transmission bolted directly to the differential. There is a blowproof Torque Tube with an internal drive-shaft connecting the front mounted engine to the T56 Transmission in the rear. With our engine mounting location several inches in back of the stock C5 location, the stock Corvette Torque Tube can not be used, and, aside from the rear-mounted transmission making seat location problematic, by converting the C5 Differential to a standard drive-shaft input with a special machined plate and carrier bearing, the Long Wheel Base SeriesII Dragon can accept any LS engine and Front Mounted Transmission. Using a T56 with the 3:42 to 1 rear ratio, you get perfectly matched gearing. And, because of the fuel injection and double overdrive, your Super Car gets 30 mpg! All this and you can get any part you need from any parts store or Chevy dealer.
Because it is only 23 inches from the ground to the top of the body we don’t install doors. This provides for superior side impact protection and eliminates seams in the body. It is a simple matter to just step in and slid down.

.

DRAGON BODIES ARE JUST A DECORATIVE SKIN.

Most companies lay up their bodies thick and heavy because they rely on them to provide occupant protection and add strength to the chassis. We don’t. Our bodies are hand and machine laid using superior resins and a strong but light lay up. The Dragon chassis can be
completely built to "go-kart" stage, and then the 2 piece body simply slides on and attaches in minutes. It is self aligning so that it is impossible to mount it wrong. Our hood is one piece and full tilting for unparalleled access to the engine. Service work is easy to do! And, It’s pretty impressive when you tilt the hood to show off your engine with custom engine cover and those beautiful headers!

WE BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE CREATED ONE OF THE MOST BEATIFUL, BEST ENGINEERED, AND HIGHEST PERFORMANCE SPECIALTY CARS ON THE PLANET!!

We are excited to be able to offer you 3 distinct packages so that you can own the car of your dreams.
